May 17, 2018 Kansas City KS — Schlitterbahn is hosting the Annual Kiwanis West Bike Rodeo where elementary kids will learn about cycling safety, get a free bike safety helmet and t-shirt this Saturday from 9 am to noon. This is the eighth year Schlitterbahn has hosted the event.

Kids are encouraged to bring their bicycles to the event to have their bikes inspected free and to complete the bicycle safety course. Youth must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The first 300 to arrive will get a free bike safety helmet and t-shirt. Participants will rotate through seven bike riding skill stations and have the opportunity to earn a bicycle safety certificate.

Schlitterbahn, since 2015, has contributed $975k toward local charities in Kansas City. This is in addition to several in-kind events and fundraisers for groups throughout the Kansas City area.

Some of the charities who have benefited from this donation (which is combined in a grant fund with additional dollars coming from the Hollywood Casino) include: the Argentine Betterment Corporation, Caritas Clinics, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, the Oak Ridge Youth Development Corporation, Cultivate Kansas City, and Young Women on the Move. A complete list of grant recipients is available on the Unified Government’s website.

In addition, in 2017 more than 800 charities received a contribution from Schlitterbahn’s family of parks throughout Texas and Kansas, with priority given to organizations who are focused on children and families.
