Galveston Island, Texas June 11, 2019 – Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts are celebrating 40 years of splashing in the sun on June 21st, the first day of summer. The 40th-anniversary celebration at Schlitterbahn Galveston is packed with fun and giveaways.
On Friday, June 21st, Schlitterbahn Galveston will open an hour early – at 9:00 a.m. – to start the anniversary celebration bright and early. The first 40 people lined up at the entrance will get into the park for free. Additionally, anyone born in the year 1979 (the same year Schlitterbahn was born) will receive free admission to the park. The first 2,500 people will receive a pair of 40th-anniversary sunglasses for coming to the park on Schlitterbahn’s birthday.
Radio superstars George Mo and Cowboy Dave from KILT-FM’s “The Morning Bull” will go live from Schlitterbahn Galveston during the anniversary celebration. And on top of it all, there will be two ribbon-cutting ceremonies: one with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce and another with the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce.
Schlitterbahn has set industry standards for over 40 years, inventing everything from the uphill rollercoaster to the original inland surfing ride. Schlitterbahn parks have hosted millions of families, celebrities, and waterpark enthusiasts of all ages. Over time, Schlitterbahn has become a beloved Texas icon. Our 40th-anniversary celebration will be as iconic as our legacy, filled with friends, family and tons of fun.
“Opening our new ride Infinity Racers this summer has been a great way to celebrate our 40th anniversary,” said Schlitterbahn Galveston General Manager Ron Sutula. “It’s the first of its kind in the world and innovative, continuing the tradition of Schlitterbahn’s best rides.”
Infinity Racers are a couple of space-themed, front-facing mat slides eight stories tall and as long as three space stations combined. Both slides are almost fully enclosed and feature multi-colored fiberglass designs that create unique lighting effects inside each slide.
