Schlitterbahn Celebrates 40th with a Gift to Texas Foster Families
April 8, 2019 . New Braunfels, TX – Over 1,400 members of foster families are getting a very special gift on April 27th: a free day at Schlitterbahn.
Every Schlitterbahn in Texas is partnering with Carrying Hope, BEAR, and Upbring to give tickets to hundreds of families for Foster Family Splash Day. Set for April 27th, caseworkers and local foster family agencies will receive tickets for foster families to use for a full day of waterpark fun at the Schlitterbahn in their area.
“Since we specialize in creating great family memories, we felt it was the perfect way to give back during our 40th anniversary season,” said Gary Henry, CEO of Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts. “Foster Family Splash Day will let us bring families together who normally would not have an opportunity to visit our parks. And we have a second goal as well: we want to increase awareness about the need for foster families in our community.”
More than 22,000 children are removed from their homes by CPS in the state of Texas every year. Carrying Hope, which was founded by foster parents and advocates who watched children arrive into foster care time and time again with absolutely nothing, works directly with CPS and foster care agencies to distribute Hope Packs––backpacks filled with comfort items and essentials a child would need for the first days in foster care. Carrying Hope will be working with foster care agencies and partners across the state to distribute tickets to foster and kinship families, providing an opportunity for families and siblings to enjoy a fun day at the waterpark, reconnect and create memories together.
“Children who are entering foster care have been through more than you can imagine,” said Kristin Finan, an adoptive and foster parent and president/CEO of Carrying Hope. “Many have never had an opportunity to spend a day at a place like Schlitterbahn. By giving them the opportunity to bond and reconnect with family and friends among the waves and the water, Schlitterbahn is helping them to create memories, and healing, that will last a lifetime.”

About Carrying Hope
Carrying Hope is a 501c3 nonprofit started by foster parents and advocates that provides Hope Packs––backpacks filled with comfort items and essentials to children entering foster care in Central Texas. Often, children who are entering the foster care system come with nothing or just a few items shoved hastily in a trash bag. Carrying Hope’s Hope Packs are broken down by age and gender and provide everything a child would need in his or her first 48 hours in foster care while making a difficult transition easier and brighter for these children and the families caring for them. Since becoming a 501c3 nonprofit in July 2016, Carrying Hope has distributed thousands of Hope Packs directly to CPS and to foster care agencies all over Central Texas. More at www.carryinghope.com.
Be A Resource for CPS Kids (BEAR) is a non-profit organization that provides hope and help for abused and neglected children. BEAR’s programs serve children in the care of Child Protective Services (CPS). Many of the children removed from their homes are removed under emergency conditions; often times shoeless, sometimes even clothes-less, and wearing only soiled diapers. BEAR has five core programs which provide emergency needs, holiday gifts, back to school supplies and uniforms, graduation gifts, and host a traveling exhibit of photos of foster kids and their families. Upbring is a leading Texas-based, faith-inspired nonprofit organization working to break the cycle of child abuse by empowering children, families and communities. Upbring embraces public-private partnerships with individual stakeholders; federal, state and local government agencies; community groups; small businesses; and large corporations to deliver services that produce measurable progress toward five key markers of every child’s well-being: safety, life skills, education, health and vocation. Upbring benefits nearly 30,000 families each year with its life-changing programs—including foster care, adoption, education, residential treatment and community services. While Upbring has evolved over more than 135 years of service, our organization remains firmly focused on delivering innovative programs and services that address the root causes of child abuse and neglect.
