Schlitterbahn is proud to announce that two lifeguards at two separate parks were recognized as Golden Guards by Ellis and Associates. Colt Scholl, a lifeguard at Schlitterbahn New Braunfels and Haley Kellogg, a lifeguard at Schlitterbahn Kansas City, both received the honor during a recent audit by Ellis and Associates.
In addition, both parks also received the highest possible rating of “Exceeds;” a recognition that overall Schlitterbahn’s lifeguards are exceeding the standards set by the internationally renown Aquatic Safety and Risk Management firm.
Every Schlitterbahn Waterpark is audited three to four times during the course of the season to ensure lifeguards have received proper training and are practicing best of class skills in every area. The audits are not announced in any way to the staff of the waterpark, instead expert trainers come in as guests and videotape lifeguards during the course of the day.
The Golden Guard award is extremely rare and highly prized in the industry; only a handful of lifeguards receive the honor each season. Ellis and Associates audits more than 2,000 aquatic facilities and tens of thousands of lifeguards over a summer. As Ellis and Associates explains on their website, a Golden Guard is “someone who epitomizes the perfect guard! A guard who is SO GOOD that an auditor watches and says WOW! That guard is the greatest!”
