Schlitterbahn in January? Absolutely! It’s perfect timing for the Polar Plunge! Benefitting the Special Olympics, this chilly event is a great way to test your mettle while helping out a great cause.
On January 28th, Schlitterbahn is turning off the heaters at Henry’s Hideout Heated Pool, and filling it up with 20,000 gallons of water. “We’re serving hot chocolate at the bar,” noted park general manager, Matt Lawrence. “It should help take the chill off – a little.”
Fortunately for participants, the weather is on track for a balmy 40 degrees. In addition to the Plunge, the Special Olympics is also holding a Strut, where participants will take a scenic 5K course around the waterpark designed just for this event. The money raised will benefit over 5,000 Special Olympic athletes in Kansas. It all kicks off at 7:30 am. The entry fee for the Polar Plunge and Strut combinedc is $75; the entry fee for the Plunge only is $50; or participants can choose to take part in the Strut only for $25.
